I must confess that I do love advertising.  I look at the ads in magazines, I allow the words to inspire me – perhaps not in the way to purchase their product, but I read the words and when they are good, I allow myself to take on the message from an altered framework.

Let me demonstrate.

In the AGE Good Weekend I cut out a full page ad for Monash University here in Melbourne.  A great university.  But this ad…really made me smile.

There are all kinds of brilliant in the world.  Some can fill trophy cabinets, while others can fill bank accounts.  But the kind of brilliant we believe in is the one that makes a difference.  From pioneering the creation of life through IVF, to helping shape the careers of pioneers, it can achieve anything.  That’s why we nurture brilliant by giving our students the knowledge, confidence and resources to do things they never thought possible.  That’s not only what brilliant needs, but what it deserves.  And that’s why Monash University is where brilliant begins.

Were you moved?  I was.

I love the use of the word ‘brilliant’ as a noun rather than an adjective.  I love the tagline : where brilliant begins.

BUT, I’m sorry to say, whilst I do have a warm fuzzy place in my heart for Monash University, it did not predispose me to encouraging my son to apply to Monash over other universities…but it did move me.

I read the words “There are all kinds of brilliant in the world.  Some can fill trophy cabinets, while others can fill bank accounts.  But the kind of brilliant we believe in is the one that makes a difference….it can achieve anything….nurture brilliant.”

What a wonderful motivational speech…nurture brilliant!

Be inspired lovely readers, take your brilliance to the world and make a difference!
