Imagine my excitement when I opened the January-February Top 1,000 issue of Australia’s Business Review Weekly to see an article on Australia’s lack lustre innovation quotient.
Excitement…Nicky, you may ask, this is not a good article…
Well yes, granted it is perhaps a little negative in it’s connotation that Australian companies have become more risk averse in spite of the fact that we have fared quite well on a global economic crisis type scale. And yes, Australia is not seen as a global leader on innovation (according to Kate Mills’ research).
But it was near the end of the article that made my head nod violently…
The GE survey also focused on what companies wanted to see Australia do to help innovation.
“The top point that was raised was that we need creative people who can think out of the box and who will take risks,” Ackland says.
(Mike Ackland VP of Strategy and Growth at GE)
Did you read that? We need creative people who can think out of the box? Well here at Artful Genius we are advocating creative people who think with the box, make stuff from the box, paint the box, and tell the box what adventures it is going to take us on!
Love it…proof again that doing all we can to boost not only our children’s creative thinking muscles, but springing into action our own tired and perhaps repressed creativity will benefit the whole country… now what better reason do you need than that?
